Overview

Rabat, Meknes, Fes and Marrakech each served as Morocco’s capital under a different dynasty, and together they tell the country’s story from the Idrisids to the Alaouites. This private seven-day loop from Casablanca links all four, adding the Roman ruins of Volubilis and a drive through the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas.

The journey opens with a guided visit to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca before you head up the coast to Rabat for the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Next comes Meknes, the city of Moulay Ismail, then the UNESCO-listed site of Volubilis, famous for its floor mosaics, and the holy town of Moulay Idriss on the road to Fes. In Fes el-Bali, a licensed guide leads you to the Bou Inania Madrasa, the gates of Al-Qarawiyyin and the Chouara tannery.

Heading south, you cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane and the cedar forest near Azrou, home to Barbary macaques, before descending to Marrakech. There, a guided medina tour is followed by a completely free day for gardens, a hammam or the souks, and then an easy motorway drive back to Casablanca.

A private air-conditioned vehicle and driver stay with you throughout, nights are spent in selected riads and hotels, and licensed local guides lead the main medina visits. Because the tour is private, we can add nights, change the hotel category or build in a detour.

Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1

Day 1: Casablanca – Hassan II Mosque – Rabat

Your driver meets you at your Casablanca hotel or at Mohammed V International Airport; just send your flight details or address when booking. The first stop is a guided visit to the Hassan II Mosque. Afterwards, a drive of about 1h15 along the coast brings you to Rabat, where you explore the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V. Overnight in Rabat.

  2. 2

    Day 2: Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes

Leave Rabat for a drive of about two hours to Meknes, the imperial city of Moulay Ismail, to see the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the old medina. Continue to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its mosaics, then pass the holy town of Moulay Idriss on your way to Fes, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight in Fes.

  3. 3

Day 3: Fes – Guided Tour of Fes el-Bali

A licensed local guide takes you into Fes el-Bali through Bab Bou Jeloud, the Blue Gate. The morning covers the Bou Inania Madrasa, the gates of Al-Qarawiyyin and the Chouara tannery, along with the busy craft souks in between. The afternoon is yours, with the option of heading up to the Merenid Tombs for a sweeping view over the medina. Overnight in Fes.

  4. 4

Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Middle Atlas – Marrakech

Today is the longest drive of the trip, about 7–8 hours with regular stops. You cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane, an alpine-style mountain town, and the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques live among the trees, then continue south through Beni Mellal and down to Marrakech, arriving in time to settle into your riad and rest. Overnight in Marrakech.

  5. 5

Day 5: Marrakech – Guided Medina Tour

With a licensed local guide, discover the essentials of the Marrakech medina: the Koutoubia, the Bahia Palace with its courtyards and gardens, the maze of souks and finally the great square of Jemaa el-Fnaa. The evening is free, the perfect time to return to the square when its food stalls and performers come to life after dark. Overnight in Marrakech.

  6. 6

Day 6: Free Day in Marrakech

A day entirely at your own pace. You might visit the Majorelle Garden, book a hammam or spend more time shopping in the souks for lanterns, rugs or spices. If you would like to leave the city, optional excursions to the Ourika Valley or the Agafay desert can be arranged at extra cost; just ask our team when booking or during the trip. Overnight in Marrakech.

  7. 7

    Day 7: Marrakech – Casablanca

After a final breakfast in Marrakech, your driver takes you north along the motorway back to Casablanca, a journey of around three hours. The tour ends with drop-off at your hotel in the city or at Mohammed V International Airport, timed around your onward plans or flight. If you need extra nights at either end, our team can arrange them.
